Academics

St. Joseph's School maintains academic standards that inspire our children to do their best and achieve personal goals in all academic areas. Our teachers are well prepared to meet the diverse needs and styles of all learners. We strongly believe that all children can and will learn in the right educational environment.  Our students develop positive work habits and study skills.  St. Joseph's students are well-prepared for high school and excel in a variety of areas.

Our students traditionally do very well on the British Columbia Foundational Skills Assessments at grades four and seven.

St. Joseph's Students go on to the local high schools and excel in a variety of areas, academics. leadership, sports, music and more! 

LOVE TO LEARN

Our students have the opportunity to develop literacy skills throughout all curriculum areas.  Individual learning needs are met as children read and write in small group settings receiving the individualized instruction required for optimum growth.

Students have made great gains in their reading skills since we began our Love to Read program. Children are challenged at their personal level. We celebrate achievements in reading as a learning community.

Students engage in small instructional groups for math skill support.  The web-based Mathletics program is used to challenge and support students in grades one through seven.  Students love it and our math results show it!

Environmental Integration

Our whole school engages in the Stream to Sea program where we care for Chum Salmon eggs until they are ready to be released back into their natural environment. Students learn about how humans impact the environment of the salmon and what to do to make a difference in the world around them.  We engage in a whole school field trip on the fry release day thanks to our Parent Auxiliary, the Halalt First Nation and Department of Fisheries.
