School Emergency Closures
In the event of severe weather conditions (or other emergencies), the Principal (or her designate) will determine if a school closure is necessary. This decision will be made as soon as possible.
An announcement of the closure will be broadcast on the following radio stations:
- SUN FM (89.7) in Duncan
- WAVE FM (102.3) in Nanaimo
The closure will be broadcast on the following TV stations:
- Shaw Cable in Duncan
- The New VI in Nanaimo
As well, the phoning parents for the school will make every effort to contact all parents or guardians. The message on the school’s answering machine will be updated to provide current information.
If you do not hear of a school closure and the weather conditions are severe where you live, you will have to make the choice as to whether or not it is safe to bring/send your children to school. Parents are asked to use their discretion in this matter. If you decide to keep your children home, call the school office as soon as possible.
In the event of an unanticipated closure during school hours, we will ensure that all children are picked up by an approved adult or transported home or to an alternate approved location.
Your child’s safety is our main concern in emergency situations. Please ensure that the office is fully aware of alternate emergency arrangements for your child(ren). As well, inform us of any changes to phone numbers (regular and cell) and contact people.
